Cilevi is a screen recorder and video editor for Windows, made by Doment Digital FZE LLC ("Cilevi", "we", "us"), a limited liability establishment registered in the Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, trade licence number 4431328.01, with its registered address at Business Centre, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. This policy explains what Cilevi records, where that data lives, what (if anything) leaves your computer, and what rights you have.
In short
- Everything you record stays on your computer. Cilevi saves your videos, audio, camera footage and pointer data to a folder you choose, and nothing is uploaded by the app.
- While a recording is running, Cilevi captures your screen, the sound your computer plays, your microphone and camera if you switched them on, the position and clicks of your mouse, and the keys you press. The keys are recorded so the editor can show keystroke overlays. You can turn key recording off in the recorder menu.
- Cilevi does not use analytics, tracking or advertising, and it does not send crash reports.
- If you buy a licence, the store or payment provider you buy from handles your payment and gives us your email address and order details so we can deliver and support your licence. When licence activation is switched on, the app sends your licence key and a device identifier to our server to check the licence.
- You can email [email protected] about any of this.
1. What Cilevi records, and why
Cilevi only records when you start a recording (the red button, the F9 key, or the tray menu) and stops when you stop it. Between recordings the app captures nothing that is stored, with three exceptions:
- While the toolbar is open and the microphone toggle is on, Cilevi reads the microphone level to show the level meter, so you can see the microphone is live before you record. The audio is not stored.
- While the camera toggle is on, the camera is open and shown in a live preview window so you can frame yourself. Nothing is stored until you record.
- The keyboard shortcut hook described in section 3.
During a recording, depending on the options you have switched on, Cilevi captures:
- Your screen: the display, window or area you selected, including anything visible in it. If a password, a message or a document is on screen, it will be in the video. It is up to you to keep private things off screen.
- System audio: the sound your computer plays, such as an app or a browser tab.
- Microphone: your voice, if the microphone toggle is on.
- Camera: your webcam, if the camera toggle is on. The camera footage is saved as a separate video file next to the screen recording.
- Mouse pointer: the position of the pointer, the shape it has (arrow, hand, text cursor and so on), and mouse button presses, many times per second. The editor uses this to draw a smooth pointer and to zoom in on clicks.
- Key presses: the keys and key combinations you press (for example Ctrl+Shift+S), with the time they were pressed. The editor uses this to show keystroke overlays in the finished video. Key presses are not recorded while a recording is paused, and never outside a recording. You can switch key recording off in the recorder's settings menu ("Record key presses for keystroke overlays").
- Snapshots: a still image of the screen, if you press the snapshot button.
Why we record these: to make the video you asked for. Cilevi has no other use for any of it.
2. Where your recordings are stored
All of it is saved locally, on your computer:
- Videos, camera footage and snapshots go to your Videos folder, or to the folder you chose under "Change Output Folder".
- Pointer and key press data is saved in a small text file next to the video, with the same name and the ending ".mouse.json". You can open it in any text editor to see exactly what it holds, and you can delete it; the video still plays without it.
- Editor projects are saved where you choose to save them. The editor also writes an automatic backup next to your project file while you work.
- Settings and a diagnostic log are saved under your Windows profile in the folder %APPDATA%\Cilevi. The log records timestamps, device names, errors and similar technical events. It never contains the content of a recording, key presses or pointer positions.
- Background images you paste into the editor are saved under %APPDATA%\Cilevi\backgrounds.
Cilevi does not upload, back up or copy any of these files anywhere. If you delete a file, it is gone as far as we are concerned; we never had a copy.
3. The keyboard shortcut hook
Cilevi lets you start, stop and pause a recording with the F9 and F10 keys even when another app is in front. To make this work, the recorder registers those two keys as global hotkeys and also installs a keyboard hook as a fallback for systems where the hotkeys are already taken by another app. Outside a recording, the hook only looks for F9 and F10 and ignores everything else. Nothing is stored. Some security software reports any keyboard hook as a keylogger; this is what the hook is for and all it does.
4. Captions and speech recognition
The editor can create captions from the speech in your recording. It uses the speech recognition built into Windows, which runs on your computer. Cilevi does not send your audio to any server to do this. Whether Windows itself sends anything is governed by your Windows privacy settings and Microsoft's privacy statement, not by us.
5. What leaves your computer
Today: nothing. The current version of Cilevi makes no network connections of any kind. It has no analytics, no crash reporting, no usage tracking and no advertising.
When we switch on licence activation and update checks, the app will connect to our servers only for the following, and this policy will describe it here:
- Licence check: when you enter a licence key, the app sends the key, an identifier derived from your computer's hardware and Windows installation (so the licence can be tied to the number of computers it allows), the version of Cilevi and the version of Windows. Our server records this to know which computers a licence is active on. Your IP address is visible to our server as part of any connection, as with any website.
- Update check: the app may ask our server whether a newer version exists. That request carries the version of Cilevi and of Windows and nothing about you.
Neither of these ever sends recordings, screenshots, pointer data, key presses or file names.
6. Data we hold about customers
If you buy Cilevi, the store or payment provider you buy from (for example the Microsoft Store or our online checkout provider, named on the checkout page) collects your payment details. We never see your card number. The provider gives us:
- your name and email address,
- the order number, the date, the amount and the currency,
- the country you bought from, which the provider needs for tax,
- the licence key that was issued to you.
We use these to deliver your licence, to answer support requests, to send you notices about the licence you bought (such as a security fix), and to keep the accounting records the law requires.
If you email us, we keep the emails so we can help you and so we can look back at what was said.
We will only send you marketing email, such as news about new features, if you have opted in, and every such email has an unsubscribe link.
7. Legal bases (for people in the EU, the UK and similar jurisdictions)
- Performing our contract with you: delivering, activating and supporting your licence.
- Our legitimate interests: keeping licences from being abused, securing our systems, and keeping records of what we told customers.
- Legal obligations: tax and accounting records.
- Your consent: marketing email. You can withdraw it at any time.
Everything the app records on your computer is processed by you, on your device, for your own purposes. We are not a processor or controller of your recordings, because we never receive them.
8. How long we keep data
- Data on your computer: as long as you keep it. It is yours to delete.
- Licence and order records: for as long as your licence is valid, and afterwards for as long as accounting and tax law requires us to keep records of the sale.
- Support email: up to three years after the conversation ends, unless a dispute needs it longer.
- Marketing consent: until you unsubscribe.
9. Who we share data with
- The store or payment provider you bought from, which is an independent controller of your payment data under its own privacy policy.
- Our email and hosting providers, who process data on our instructions.
- Authorities, when the law compels us to.
We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers.
10. International transfers
We are in the United Arab Emirates and our servers may be in the UAE, the European Union or the United States. If you are in the EU or the UK, your data may be transferred outside your region. Where the law requires it, we rely on standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard for that transfer.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority; in the EU that is the authority of the country you live in, in the UK it is the Information Commissioner's Office, and in the UAE it is the UAE Data Office.
For the data on your own computer, you do not need us: you can open, copy or delete it yourself.
To exercise any right about the data we hold, email [email protected]. We will answer within thirty days.
12. California residents
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months. You have the rights to know, to delete, to correct and to non-discrimination described above, and you can exercise them by email.
13. Children
Cilevi is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.
14. Security
Anything the app sends to our servers travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Data on your computer is protected by your Windows account; keep your computer and your account secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your data we will tell you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
15. Recording other people
You are responsible for what you record. In many places you need the consent of the people whose voice, image or screen you capture, and in some places recording a conversation without everyone's consent is a crime. Please check the law where you and they are before you record a call, a meeting or another person. Cilevi is a tool for making videos of your own screen, and it is not to be used for covert surveillance.
16. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If the change is material, Cilevi will show you the new policy when the app starts and ask you to read it before continuing. Older versions are available on request.
